Concrete Shower Base On Concrete Floor

Installing a concrete shower base on a concrete floor can be a cost-effective and durable solution for your bathroom. Concrete is a strong and water-resistant material that can withstand heavy use and moisture. By following these steps, you can create a beautiful and functional shower base that will last for years to come.

Materials:

  • Concrete mix
  • Sand
  • Gravel
  • Plywood
  • 2x4 lumber
  • Screws
  • Nails
  • Caulk
  • Tile
  • Grout

Tools:

  • Concrete mixer
  • Shovel
  • Trowel
  • Level
  • Circular saw
  • Hammer
  • Drill
  • Tile cutter
  • Grout float

Steps:

1. Prepare the concrete floor: Clean the concrete floor and remove any dirt or debris. Roughen the surface of the floor with a grinder or chisel to create a good bond for the concrete base.

2. Build the form: Build a form around the perimeter of the shower area using plywood and 2x4 lumber. The form should be the same height as the desired thickness of the concrete base. Secure the form with screws or nails.

3. Mix the concrete: Mix the concrete according to the manufacturer's instructions. Use a concrete mixer to ensure a thorough mix.

4. Pour the concrete: Pour the concrete into the form and spread it evenly using a trowel. Level the concrete using a level.

5. Cure the concrete: Allow the concrete to cure for at least 24 hours before removing the form. Keep the concrete moist during the curing process by covering it with plastic or burlap.

6. Install the tile: Once the concrete base is cured, you can install the tile. Use a tile cutter to cut the tile to fit and apply thinset mortar to the back of the tile. Press the tile into place and level it using a level.

7. Grout the tile: Once the tile is installed, you can grout the joints between the tiles. Use a grout float to apply the grout and remove any excess grout with a damp sponge.

8. Seal the grout: Once the grout has dried, you can seal it to protect it from moisture. Apply a grout sealer according to the manufacturer's instructions.

By following these steps, you can create a beautiful and functional concrete shower base on a concrete floor. Concrete is a durable and water-resistant material that will last for years to come.
