Closet Sliding Door Floor Track

Closet sliding doors are a popular choice for closets because they are easy to use and can save space. However, if the floor track of your closet sliding door is not properly aligned, it can cause the door to jam or become difficult to open and close. In this article, we will discuss how to adjust the floor track of a closet sliding door so that it operates smoothly.

Step 1: Gather Your Tools

Before you begin, you will need to gather the following tools:

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Hammer
  • Level

Step 2: Remove the Door

To adjust the floor track, you will need to first remove the door. To do this, open the door about halfway and then lift it up and off the track. Be careful not to drop the door, as it can be heavy.

Step 3: Locate the Floor Track

Once the door is removed, you will be able to see the floor track. The floor track is typically made of metal and is located at the bottom of the closet opening.

Step 4: Adjust the Floor Track

There are two ways to adjust the floor track: you can either move it forward or backward, or you can tilt it up or down. To move the floor track forward or backward, use a flathead screwdriver to loosen the screws that hold the track in place. Once the screws are loose, you can slide the track forward or backward as needed. To tilt the floor track up or down, use a Phillips head screwdriver to loosen the screws that hold the track to the floor. Once the screws are loose, you can tilt the track up or down as needed.

Step 5: Level the Floor Track

Once you have adjusted the floor track, you need to level it. To do this, place a level on the track and adjust the track until it is level in both directions. Once the track is level, tighten the screws that hold it in place.

Step 6: Reinstall the Door

Once the floor track is level, you can reinstall the door. To do this, lift the door up and onto the track. Be sure to align the door with the track before lowering it into place.

Step 7: Test the Door

Once the door is reinstalled, test it to make sure it opens and closes smoothly. If the door is still jamming or difficult to open and close, you may need to adjust the floor track further.
