How To Rewire A Floor Lamp

Rewiring a floor lamp is not a difficult task. However, it does require some basic knowledge of electricity and some tools. If you're not comfortable working with electricity, it's best to hire a qualified electrician.

To rewire a floor lamp, you'll need the following tools and materials:

A Phillips head screwdriver
A flat head screwdriver
Wire strippers
Electrical tape
New electrical cord
New lamp socket (optional)

Once you have all of your tools and materials, you can begin the rewiring process.

1. Unplug the lamp from the outlet. This is a very important safety precaution. Failure to do so could result in electric shock.

2. Remove the harp and shade from the lamp. The harp is the metal frame that holds the shade in place. To remove the harp, simply unscrew the knob at the top of the lamp. Once the harp is removed, you can lift the shade off of the lamp.

3. Remove the old electrical cord from the lamp. To do this, simply unscrew the wire nuts that are connecting the cord to the lamp socket. Once the wire nuts are removed, you can pull the old cord out of the lamp.

4. Strip the ends of the new electrical cord. To do this, use a pair of wire strippers to remove about 1/2 inch of insulation from each end of the cord. Be careful not to cut into the wires.

5. Connect the new electrical cord to the lamp socket. To do this, simply twist the bare ends of the cord around the terminals on the lamp socket. Make sure that the wires are securely fastened.

6. Wrap electrical tape around the connections. This will help to insulate the connections and prevent them from coming loose.

7. Reassemble the lamp. To do this, simply reverse the steps that you took to disassemble the lamp. Once the lamp is reassembled, you can plug it back into the outlet and turn it on.
